Exide Technologies Wins Two-Year Contract to Supply Pacific Automotive

    ELIZABETH, Australia, Sept. 6 Exide Technologies
, the global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, announced
today that it has signed an exclusive two-year agreement to supply Australia-
based Pacific Automotive with transportation batteries.  Pacific Automotive, a
division of Pacific Dunlop, Ltd., is a leading retailer and wholesaler of
automotive replacement parts and accessories in Australia and New Zealand.  It
operates more than 570 retail outlets under the names Repco and Autopro.

    "The two-year supply agreement, retroactive to November, 2000, is a
significant achievement and a profitable alliance for Exide in the Australasia
region," said Craig H. Muhlhauser, Chief Executive Officer of Exide
Technologies.

    Exide Technologies will be the exclusive supplier of transportation
batteries to Pacific Automotive retail outlets, representing projected annual
sales of 13.5 million Australian dollars.

    "Pacific Automotive not only is a major battery retailer, but its battery
volume is growing at 10 percent per annum," said William Morrissy, Exide
Technologies' group general manager for Australasia.

    The agreement includes the Exide Technologies brands Exide(R) and
Champion(R), along with Pacific Automotive brands Repco Super Power, Motorgard
and Master Part.
