IAA 2001: Opel Stand Demonstrates Dynamism And Versatility

Frankfurt - The Opel stand at the 59th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt offers an exciting glimpse of the automotive future. This year, Opel showcases the world premiere of its new Combo Tour and innovative concept vehicles like the Signum2 as well as a host of sporty vehicles and alternative propulsion concepts.

"Versatility and dynamism" are the key characteristics of the Opel stand, in tune with the concept cars and 2002 production vehicles displayed. The focal point of the 5290-square-meter exhibition area in Hall 8 is the "VariScope", a moving, 1000-square-meter display area with the Signum2 concept car at its center. A particularly eye-catching feature is the 3.5-ton rotating LED screen installed above the VariScope for presenting live events, interviews and Signum2 videos to the crowds. Some of the videos were filmed with a 24P camera and high-resolution digital film otherwise used only in Hollywood film productions.

Another technological highlight is the auto show premiere of the "Electronic Surround Poster," an LED cylinder which surrounds the viewer with images and sound. Other Opel firsts include a PC-based real time 3D configurator for cars that will also be available on the internet, and "Litefast columns" - glass cylinders with rotating LED displays for exciting, fast paced viewing.

Interactive visitor involvement plays a key role on the Opel stand at this year's show. In a special sports area, basketball enthusiasts can test their skills with the professionals from the Opel Skyliners on a purpose-built court. Soccer fans can slip into the role of Oliver Kahn, the star goalkeeper from Opel's sponsoring partner Bayern Munich, in a virtual soccer game.

Another highlight will appeal particularly to younger visitors: Inspired by recent creative exchanges with Opel designers, a group of grafitti artists - including the world-famous 'Loomit' from Germany - will be on the Opel stand creating new works of art every day.
