Sensoria Corporation and WCITIES Join to Give Drivers Access To Location-Aware Destination Content

Sensoria Corporation and WCITIES Join to Give Drivers Access To Location-Aware Destination Content

LA JOLLA, Calif., Sept. 6 Sensoria Corporation, a leader
in wireless connectivity solutions, and WCITIES, a premier location-based
services provider, announced an application partnership today at DEMOmobile
2001 in La Jolla, Calif. Under the agreement, WCITIES comprehensive
destination content will now extend to passenger vehicles, and be enhanced
with onboard global positioning capabilities and voice interface.
WCITIES' location-aware content is delivered into the vehicle by the
Sensoria Telematics Environment, a standards-based telematics platform that
enables the next generation of telematics services in vehicles. WCITIES
content has application across multiple platforms including wireless (cell
phones and PDAs) and PC. With the Sensoria partnership, WCITIES expands into
the telematics application.
A driver in a vehicle equipped with the Sensoria Telematics Environment
can request and receive directory services from WCITIES over the car audio
system. Speech technologies supported by the Sensoria Telematics Environment
enable hands-free interaction with the WCITIES service. The data is delivered
to the vehicle by cellular or wireless LAN connections on Sensoria's mGate
Modular Vehicle Gateway device. Inside the mGate, the data is managed by the
Sensoria Telematics Client which interfaces between the vehicle's GPS data and
WCITIES geo-coded destination data.
"The alliance between WCITIES and Sensoria is an ideal union of technology
and content," according to Fraser Campbell, vice president of WCITIES. "It is
a logical extension of WCITIES wireless capability, making our content about
hundreds of cities worldwide available to automobile commuters and other
travelers."
"WCITIES offers content that is of great value to drivers. By integrating
with the Sensoria Telematics Environment, we've enabled safe and convenient
in-vehicle access to WCITIES' directories and destination content," explains
Brian Davis, Sensoria vice president of marketing.
WCITIES offers extensive coverage that currently spans over 300 major
world cities and has operations in over 100 countries. WCITIES provides
in-depth multi-lingual local coverage of the world's top cities from Lisbon to
London, Amsterdam to Madrid, Houston to Hong Kong, Paris to Buenos Aires and
all major points in between. Key facets of city life including hotels,
restaurants, sporting events, entertainment, shopping and transportation are
part of WCITIES content. The exclusive LBS content of WCITIES is kept fresh
by a team of over 1500 local researchers, writers, reviewers and other
experts.
The Sensoria Telematics Environment is a standards-based platform for
delivering next-generation telematics services over conventional cellular,
Bluetooth and wireless LAN connections. It enables telematics service
providers to quickly and easily deploy new voice and data applications
remotely to in-vehicle information systems. It consists of three components:
the Telematics Server Suite, the Telematics Client Platform software, and the
mGate Modular Vehicle Gateway. Sensoria has simplified the complexities of
wireless and proprietary vehicle interfaces into a common set of APIs and
web-based interfaces to support third-party software development for the
Sensoria Telematics Environment.
