Sensoria and CustomWeather Partner to Deliver Location-Aware, On-Demand, In-Vehicle Weather Forecasts

Sensoria and CustomWeather Partner to Deliver Location-Aware, On-Demand, In-Vehicle Weather Forecasts

LA JOLLA, Calif., Sept. 6 Sensoria and CustomWeather
announced a new partnership today at DEMOmobile 2001 -- an executive
conference focused on the products and technology shaping the mobile and
wireless marketplace -- in La Jolla, Calif.
Through the partnership, CustomWeather will provide on-demand,
location-aware weather forecasting services to drivers via the Sensoria
Telematics Environment, a standards-based telematics platform that provides
innovative third-party application developers a simple-to-use interface for
delivering services to in-vehicle information systems.
CustomWeather's content is accessed by the Sensoria Telematics Environment
via a wireless connection in the vehicle and played on-demand over the car's
audio system through text-to-speech conversion.
"Sensoria's technology allows us to enter the telematics market and
deliver our weather content into the vehicle on-demand and specific to the
driver's location. The platform's GPS capabilities and text-to-speech support
make it a perfect fit for our geocoded, XML-based weather forecasting
services," explains Geoff Flint, CEO of CustomWeather.
"CustomWeather is a great example of the utility and convenience of
advanced telematics services," explains Dave Gelvin, president and CEO of
Sensoria. "The quick and easy integration demonstrates the value of an open
platform like the Sensoria Telematics Environment and increases the
opportunity for other service providers to join us."
CustomWeather's forecasting services are extremely well suited for use on
the Internet and wireless platforms. CustomWeather provides valuable data
such as comprehensive current condition reports, two-day detailed forecasts,
seven-day extended forecasts, ski resort updates, marine forecasts and airport
delay forecasts for over 58,000 cities worldwide, including more than
28,000 cities in the U.S. CustomWeather supplies its content in a variety of
formats including XML and ASCII, giving clients total control of the look and
feel of the weather content delivered to their customer.
The Sensoria Telematics Environment is a standards-based platform for
delivering next-generation telematics services over conventional cellular,
Bluetooth and wireless LAN connections. It enables telematics service
providers to quickly and easily deploy new voice and data applications
remotely to in-vehicle information systems. It consists of three components:
the Telematics Server Suite, the Telematics Client Platform software, and the
mGate Modular Vehicle Gateway. Sensoria has simplified the complexities of
wireless and proprietary vehicle interfaces into a common set of APIs and
web-based interfaces to support third-party software development for the
Sensoria Telematics Environment.
