SCCA Valvoline Runoffs location not related to headquarters relocation

CENTENNIAL, Colo. * Sports Car Club of America, Inc. President and CEO Steve Johnson released the following statement today regarding the site of the Valvoline Runoffs(r)--SCCA Club Racing's headlining event held every year to crown its National Champions:

"Last week, the SCCA announced that its corporate headquarters are moving to Topeka, Kansas in November 2002. The SCCA did not, however, announce that the Valvoline Runoffs is moving.

"The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been, and continues to be, a very important partner of the SCCA. We value our partnership and the many years of investment Mid-Ohio has put into the Valvoline Runoffs, helping it grow into an event which will eclipse 700 participants for the first time this year.

"The SCCA Runoffs will continue to be at Mid-Ohio through 2002, the extent of the current contract. Our premier event will go out for bid in the next two weeks for the years 2003 through 2005. We anticipate several very aggressive bids for the Runoffs, and will do our best in the evaluation and selection process.

"Whether the Runoffs remains at Mid-Ohio for another three years after the 2002 season, or the event moves to another venue, the event will not only crown very deserving Champions, but continue to provide some of the best motorsports action anywhere in the North America," concluded Johnson.

"SCCA Club Racing and the Valvoline Runoffs(r) are very important to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course," said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course President. "Mid-Ohio is committed to hosting the Valvoline Runoffs through 2002, and definitely welcomes the opportunity to renew the current agreement with the SCCA."

"We are extremely proud of the growth the event has achieved since moving to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 1994. This is the type of racing the track was originally built to feature. The Runoffs continues to provide the most competitive and entertaining action on our entire schedule."

The 2001 installment of the Valvoline Runoffs begins with practice and qualifying September 17, with three full days of racing (24 different Championship competitions) concluding the week on September 21-23.
