BMW Reports Strong August Sales
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 5 BMW of North America, LLC
reported year-to-date sales of 145,357, an increase of 20 percent, over the
120,763 sold in the first eight months of 2000. BMW posted sales of
19,054 vehicles last month, compared to 16,812 in August 2000, up 13 percent.
This marks the 35th consecutive month that BMW has surpassed its own
monthly sales records.
Automobile Sales
BMW reported August automobile sales of 15,518 compared to 14,443 a year
ago, an increase of more than seven percent. Year-to-date automobile sales
were strong too, at 119,956, up 11 percent over the 108,352 reported in the
same period a year ago.
Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
BMW also reported August sales of 3,536 Sports Activity Vehicles, up
49 percent over sales of 2,369 SAVs in the same month last year.
Year-to-date, BMW reported sales of 25,401 vehicles, an increase of
105 percent compared to the 12,411 reported through August of 2000.
Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales
BMW also reported its best month this calendar year for Certified
Pre-owned vehicle sales, with 3,734 units in August, down nine percent from
4,095 in August 2000. Year to date, Certified Pre-Owned BMW sales total
26,183 units, down 16 percent from the 31,305 units sold in the same period
last year. The decline reflects fewer off-lease vehicles coming back into the
market.
