September 5, 2001With many teams arriving in Richmond for a one-race deal with either a Winston Cup driver or a past Truck Series winner, it became an easy choice for Bobby Hamilton to make the Kroger 200 one of his races for Dana Corporation.
Every year, Hamilton is required to make five starts in the No. 4 Dana Dodge. At one point he was thinking of running Phoenix, the site of the first Winston Cup Series win, but with so many great drivers coming out for this event, he reconsidered.
“You always want to win,” said Hamilton. “But to beat a great field of drivers is every racer's dream. It just makes for a great show for the fans and it's fun for the drivers. Plus, the Truck Series has some really talented drivers that don't care about who you are. They're going to run you in the ground to beat you.”
Dr. Pepper Crew: Hamilton will have the No. 26 Dave Carroll Motorsports Dr. Pepper crew from his son's NASCAR Busch Grand National Series Team, pitting his Dana Dodge this weekend at Richmond International Raceway.
Statistics: Hamilton enters the weekend fourth overall in laps led and miles led. He currently has led 258 laps for a total of 240.71 miles. Hamilton is currently in the 37th position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver points standings, after competing last month at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Quarter Million Mark: If Hamilton and the No. 4 Dana Dodge Team can bring home $15,530 in purse money in the Kroger 200, it will put Hamilton over the $250,000 mark in career Truck Series earnings.
