Nissan Reports August Sales

    GARDENA, Calif., Sept. 4 The Nissan Division of
Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced August sales of 52,905 units,
a decline of 15.5%.  The Nissan Pathfinder led the division with sales of
6,769 units, up 14.2 percent versus last year.  Sentra sales totaled
10,363 while sales for the Maxima totaled 8,595.
    
Frontier garnered sales of 7,089 units while Xterra reported sales of
7,429.  Quest recorded sales of 3,038 units, bringing combined truck sales to
24,325 units for the month.
   
 Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles accounted for
64 percent of August sales.  Calendar year-to-date sales totaled 420,257
units, versus 460,965 units in 2000, a decline of 8.8 percent.  Combined sales
for Nissan and Infiniti Divisions for August totaled 59,075 units, a
15.7 percent decline from August 2000.
    
Nissan's dealer inventory is at its lowest level in the past five years,
while Altima inventory is at its lowest level since the launch of the prior
generation.  Reducing inventory is an important part of the Nissan Revival
Plan, and helps pave the way for sales of the all-new 2002 Nissan Altima
sedan, which began last week.
