Subaru Reports Best August Sales Since 1987

    CHERRY HILL, N.J., Sept. 4 Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA),
a pioneer of crossover all-wheel drive vehicles designed for the active
lifestyle, announced today strong August total sales of 17,156 units.  The
total represents an increase of 7 percent from August 2000 and the brand's
second best August since 1987.
   

"Despite an ongoing softness in the marketplace and a string of bad news from Wall Street, demand for Subaru All-Wheel Drive vehicles remains strong," said Fred Adcock, Executive Vice President, Subaru of America, Inc. "August was our sixth consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases and overall, we're on pace to exceed last year's strong result."

Subaru Legacy recorded a sales total of 7,277 units, down slightly from the August 2000 tally. The '02 Impreza line, which includes the turbocharged WRX, established a new August record with 3,735 units posted, up a staggering 102 percent from last year. Subaru Forester recorded sales of 4,827 units, down 4 percent from August 2000. To date, Subaru has sold 122,212 units in 2001, up 7 percent from 2000 totals for the same period.
