Goodyear Launches 3rd Generation Web Site
AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 3 The address is the same, but the site is all new. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company launched the third generation of its popular goodyear.com Web site today. The world's largest tiremaker expects consumers to find the new site faster and easier to use. "We have completely rebuilt goodyear.com to bring the most-used features closer to the home page than ever before," said Nathaniel E. Leonard, director, global e-commerce. "Tire shoppers can now find both our tire selector and dealer selector on our U.S. home page," he said. "Visitors to our corporate home page are just one click away," he said. "Recognizing that consumers now, more than ever, are interested in tire quality and safety, we also have provided links to our 'Tire School' on the U.S. home page. Here, you can learn the basics of tire technology, download a copy of our tire safety guide, determine what kind of tires are right for your car and get information about how to take care of them. We call it 'Tires 101.'" The improvements go beyond those easily visible, Leonard said. Goodyear has restructured its Web site infrastructure to make it easier and more efficient to operate and better prepared for future e-commerce enhancements. Kevin Choo, the project's manager, underscored the global nature of the initiative. "We will use the same tire selector and dealer locator around the world. In addition, we now have a technology platform that permits us to quickly deploy new capabilities around the world. "As a global corporation with many products and brands, Goodyear operates hundreds of Web sites around the world. Our redesign allows these sites to have a common infrastructure and share tools and applications but maintain their differentiated presentation," Choo said. "Several business-to-business and consumer e-commerce applications are in place and more will be rolled out in the months to come. We are very excited about the solid business value our Web sites are providing Goodyear." First launched in 1995, goodyear.com was the tire industry's first outpost on the Internet. It was last redesigned in 1999. Goodyear is the world's largest tire company. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, the company manufactures tires, engineered rubber products and chemicals in more than 90 facilities in 28 countries. It has marketing operations in almost every country around the world. Goodyear employs about 100,000 people worldwide.
