Tony Kanaan and his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard qualified

sessions. That was the fourth-best time in that 13-car group, made up
primarily of drivers in the lower half of the point standings.
Teammate Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda
Reynard was 10th in the same qualifying group and will start the race from
the 23rd position. Teammates Alex Tagliani and Patrick Carpentier claimed
the front row with Tagliani earning the pole in 1:00.872 (105.329 mph) and
Carpentier the second spot at 1:00.924 (105.239 mph). Gil de Ferran
qualified third in 1:00.933 (105.224 mph).
Race time Sunday is 2 p.m. PDT (5 p.m. EDT) with a tape-delayed broadcast

CART2DAY can be seen on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. EDT.
TONY KANAAN
"Obviously, I'm not very happy with where we are. It's very frustrating to
start the weekend fastest (in Friday-morning practice) and then see yourself
go backwards from there. It makes things worse to have to qualify in the
slow group because it's just tough to put your car at the front of the grid
from there. But that's the situation for us right now and we have to make
the best of it."
