INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Goodyear's efforts to build safer and faster drag racing tires were recognized Thursday as the company was named the Equipment Manufacturer of the Year at the 34th Annual Car Craft Magazine All Star Drag Racing Team Awards dinner here.

Perry Bell, Goodyear operations manager, drag racing, accepted the prestigious Christmas Tree Trophy. Each winner is awarded a Christmas Tree Trophy. The winners are selected through voting by fans, racers and the media.

"This is a tribute to the dedication of the men and women of Goodyear that we continue to produce a quality product," Bell said. "Goodyear is constantly concerned with the safety of the competitors."

The tiremaker builds tires for virtually every form of auto racing and has received many awards through the years. But the inclusion of the company on the 2001 All Star Drag Racing team stands out.

"This is a tremendous award," said Bell, "because the winners are decided through voting among a cross-section of the racing community."
