Cellport Systems Granted Serial Data Interface Control Document License From QUALCOMM

Broadens Cellport's Market for In-Vehicle, Hands-Free Cell Phone Systems

BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 29 Cellport Systems, Inc., a leading
provider of automotive wireless communications and telematics systems, today
announced it has been granted a license from
QUALCOMM Incorporated for the Serial Data Interface Control
Document. Cellport will now be able to deliver automotive hands-free systems
that provide universal hands-free, voice-activated operation of Code Division
Multiple Access (CDMA) handsets from Kyocera, Samsung, Sony, Sanyo, Audiovox,
LG Electronics and other manufacturers employing the QUALCOMM CDMA family of
chipsets.
By gaining access to the QUALCOMM interface specification, Cellport will
be able to begin producing Pocket Adapters for these handsets in the fourth
quarter of this year. Cellport's unique Pocket Adapter system will allow
users of CDMA phones to achieve hands-free, voice-activated operation in a
safe and secure environment. Cellport already manufactures Pocket Adapters for
handsets from Motorola and Nokia.
"Today's announcement is a significant milestone toward ensuring
Cellport's products will be CDMA-compatible today and in the future, allowing
us to create new Pocket Adapters for our automotive and aftermarket
customers," said Pat Kennedy, chairman and CEO of Cellport Systems.
"QUALCOMM is pleased to provide access to its Serial Data Interface
Control Document to Cellport Systems to design and market innovative solutions
for vehicle-based communications systems," said Tia Cassett, director of
business development for QUALCOMM. "Cellport will have the opportunity to
offer advanced hands-free, voice-activated wireless products for the CDMA
telematics market."
CDMA is a popular wireless phone standard in the Americas and the Asia
Pacific region with more than 90 million global subscribers according to the
CDMA Development Group.
The Cellport 3000(TM) with Voice Command is the first universal,
voice-activated hands-free system. The voice-activated feature lets drivers
make and receive calls using simple spoken commands, allowing them to focus
their attention on the road and not the phone. Unlike other hands-free
systems, the Cellport 3000 with Voice Command is a universal system allowing
users to dock many different makes and models of cell phones into their
vehicle's hands-free system and take advantage of voice-activated, hands-free
operation.
