Metaldyne Appoints Group Vice President And General Manager of Light Metals Group

    PLYMOUTH, Mich., Aug. 28 Metaldyne Corporation announced
today that Ben Schmidt has been appointed group vice president and general
manager of the Metaldyne Light Metals Group.  Tim Leuliette, Metaldyne
president and CEO, made the announcement.

    In this role, Schmidt will be responsible for the overall operation of the
Light Metals Group, including manufacturing, sales, finance and engineering,
while continuing to serve as a member of Metaldyne's Executive Committee.
Metaldyne's Light Metals Group is a leading manufacturer of precision aluminum
die-cast components for the automotive industry.
    "I am delighted to have Ben take on this challenging new role," said
Leuliette.  "His knowledge and expertise in finance and operations, as well as
his strong leadership ability, will be an asset to Metaldyne as we continue to
integrate our businesses and create value for our customers."
    Prior to this appointment, Schmidt served as vice president, strategic
initiatives at Metaldyne, in addition to serving as vice president and general
manager of Metaldyne Shaft Operations.  As vice president of strategic
initiatives, he was responsible for leading key Metaldyne projects to identify
and implement shares services strategies across the growing number of
Metaldyne businesses.  He also directed a number of key financial projects to
improve the cash flow and operating performance of Metaldyne.
    Prior to the January 2001 merger of MascoTech, Simpson Industries and
Global Metal Technologies (GMTI), he served as chief financial officer of
MascoTech's Forming Technologies group.  Schmidt began his career with
MascoTech in 1993 as group controller of the Sintered Components group.
    Schmidt will hold an office at Metaldyne's corporate headquarters in
Plymouth, Mich.
