Judge Cyndi Taylor Krier Joins USAA as Head of Texas Government Relations
SAN ANTONIO--Aug. 28, 2001--USAA today announced that the Honorable Cyndi Taylor Krier has been appointed vice president of Texas Government Relations, effective Sept. 4.In this role, Judge Krier will lead USAA's involvement in legislative and public policy issues in Texas at the state and local levels.

"The San Antonio community and the state of Texas have long benefited from her strong leadership and dedication. Whether as an elected official, attorney, university regent or community volunteer, she has vigorously and successfully served the interests of others. We are delighted that Judge Krier is joining USAA, and will now represent the interests of its more than 4 million members."
Judge Krier and USAA have often joined together to address political, civic and social issues.
"Having worked with representatives of USAA for more than 20 years, I have always been impressed with their candor, integrity, credibility and responsiveness," said Krier. "USAA's ongoing focus on core issues affecting the company, its members and the communities in which they live reflects priorities which I share and look forward to promoting.

Krier paved the way for women and Republicans in elected offices in the San Antonio area. A Republican state senator from Bexar County from 1984 to 1992, Krier went on to serve as Bexar County Judge from 1992 to 2001. While serving in the Texas Senate, she received the Texas Bar Foundation award for her passage of the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, which has led to the resolution of hundreds of thousands of lawsuits in less time and at less cost to both litigants and taxpayers. Her term as County Judge was marked by her commitment to increased accountability, and included initiatives that addressed budget management, ethics, performance and competitive contracting. As both a legislator and local elected official, Krier worked closely with the military on issues involving base realignments, medical and trauma care, military contracting and the environment. She is well known for delivering patriotic speeches at military events. For three years, she served as a Presidential appointee on a committee addressing issues affecting women in the services. In March 2001, Krier was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the University of Texas System Board of Regents, a position she will continue to hold.
With responsibility for USAA's government relations statewide, Krier will work out of San Antonio and Austin.
