Innovation and Opportunity Drive Automotive Sensors and
Electronics
NEW YORK, Aug. 28 A steadily growing world market for
automotive electronic systems is driving augmented demand for accurate and
reliable sensor components that provide the essential input data for these
systems.
"Nearly every aspect of modern automotive design, from the powertrain to
emissions reduction to cabin comfort, has been affected by the electronics
revolution," says Technical Insights Analyst Kathy Austin. "Integrated
electronics and sensor systems are becoming a reality for automotive systems
designers and consumers alike."
Rapidly developing technology and consumer demand for increased safety on
the road are propelling the automotive electronics and sensors markets as
well. While the desire for enhanced safety features is becoming a primary
market driver, consumers still want comfort and convenience in their vehicles.
Additionally, stringent emissions standards and demand for increased gas
mileage are forcing automakers to seek new solutions, in which sensors and
electronic system control can play a significant role. As sensor research and
development progresses, sensors will become more reliable, compact and
economical to manufacture.
Electronic control systems such as instrument monitoring systems, door
systems, keyless entry, safety devices and powertrain electronics often act as
product differentiators among various companies and models.
Sensors will play an increasingly prominent role in these systems as
buyers grow to expect greater responsiveness from their cars in terms of
safety and comfort. Systems that provide streamlined function, easy access,
are simple to understand and use, while increasing a driver's comfort or sense
of security will win the greatest market share.
The market is largely controlled by market pressures and government
mandates. Cost reduction, consumer demand, increased efficiency, weight
reduction, standardization and system diagnostics are all deciding factors in
any effort to compete in the marketplace.
New analysis by Technical Insights, a division of Frost & Sullivan
