USAC's Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series returns to the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track October 6 for what promises to be a critical event in determining this year's series driving champion.

Two 30-lap feature events are planned, due to postponement of the July 28 Pennzoil "Indiana Sprint Week" event at the 1/2-mile dirt oval. Participants in the July 28 race will compete in the 30-lap "Jan Opperman Classic" race prior to a complete program of racing, including another 30-lapper.

It will mark the first time in 34 years that Terre Haute has hosted two USAC Sprint Car feature events on the same program.

Roger McCluskey won a pair of 30-lapper at Terre Haute on June 19, 1966 and Bobby Unser and Greg Weld scored victories in twin 30's at the storied oval on June 11, 1967.

Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. is the pole starter for the rain-delayed "Jan Opperman Classic" which will open the October 6 program. Derek Davidson of Lafayette, Ind. shares the front row for that 30-lapper, while series point leader Dave Darland will line up 11th.
