Build-To-Order's Chairman Shares Secrets of Success With High School Entrepreneurs

Build-To-Order's Chairman Shares Secrets of Success With High School Entrepreneurs

Keynote Speaker Scott Painter Tells Students in the Academy of Business
Leadership That Visions of Hope Can Become a Reality

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 The Academy of Business Leadership
welcomed Scott Painter, Build-To-Order's Chairman of the Board, as the keynote
speaker at the nonprofit organization's Fourth Annual Summer Business
Institute Commencement and Awards Banquet.
Painter spoke to more than 500 high school students and community leaders
stressing the importance of fulfilling your dreams. "To be an entrepreneur,
you must have vision, passion, persistence and honesty," said Painter.
"Without all four, entrepreneurs simply cannot accomplish their goals."
Based in Santa Monica, Build-To-Order, Inc. is a new car company that will
soon offer a family of innovatively designed cars in conjunction with a new
car-buying experience. Car-buyers will be able to personalize their vehicles
through a wide range of features and options, selecting everything from the
desired level of engine performance, the sound system and the interior
upholstery to the wheels and tires. Because BTO vehicles are not manufactured
until the customer places the order, each vehicle is individualized to the
customer's specifications.
Painter told the Academy of Business Leadership "the most important
ingredient is passion. If you are passionate about what you do, something as
audacious as starting a new car company is within your reach."
With more than a decade of experience starting and building companies,
including 1-800-DENTIST, the subject of entrepreneurship is close to Painter's
heart. As BTO's Chairman of the Board, he is responsible for securing
financing for the company as well as fostering relationships across the
automotive industry. Prior to establishing BTO, Painter co-founded
CarsDirect.com, the first nationwide automotive e-tailer that enabled
consumers to purchase and finance cars directly online.
Said Anna G. Ouroumian, Academy of Business Leadership president,
"Scott Painter captured the attention and imagination of our students because
he is reversing the car manufacturing and purchasing processes and he is fast
joining the ranks of innovative daring entrepreneurs who see the future unfold
before we do."
As a gesture of encouragement to the organization's aspiring
entrepreneurs, at the conclusion of his address, Painter gave the nonprofit
organization one share of stock in BTO for every person in attendance.
Joining Painter and Ouroumian at the event were Showtime and
Resurrection Blvd.'s Tony Plana; Pacific Bell's Lora Watts (President) and
David Nichols (Los Angeles President); Warner Bros.' Jordan Sollitto
(Executive Vice President Global Marketing) and American Honda Motor Company's
Paul Honda (Senior Manager Treasury Services).
The Academy of Business Leadership conducts a seven-week Summer Business
Institute on five college campuses where over 200 students from 77 high
schools and 32 school districts manage fictitious stock portfolios, write and
present 60-page business plans to corporate panels, visit Fortune 500
corporations, and hear from various entrepreneurs as well as business and
community leaders.
