Bolt Contest Connects Ford with Young Consumers, Insights DEARBORN, Mich., and NEW YORK, Aug. 27 As the finale to its "Design Your Dream Car" contest and sweepstakes, Ford Motor Company and Bolt, a universal communications platform for teens and young adults, awarded 21-year-old Bolt member Ms. Veshale Edwards of West Covina, Calif. with an all-expenses-paid trip to meet with Ford's design team and tour the Dearborn, Mich. studios on Wednesday, August 29. Edwards' unique car design, titled Vertigo and based on a working kit car concept, was selected from more than 500 entrants to the Ford-sponsored "Design Your Dream Car" contest which ran through February 2001 on Bolt (http://www.bolt.com ). Design submissions were featured on Bolt's Cars channel, where they were reviewed and rated by Ford and Bolt members worldwide. The contest was promoted through online marketing initiatives throughout the Bolt site and in Bolt's opt-in online newsletter announcing what's new at Bolt. As part of her first place Ford-tour package, Edwards also won a $2,500 cash prize. "I've been designing kit cars with my brother for several years, but I never thought I'd be talking shop with Ford's design team," said Edwards. "I'm thrilled that Ford and the other Bolt members liked my design -- since it's actually a car I helped build and it's really fun to drive!" The second-place prize for the "Design Your Dream Car" contest was a mountain bike, awarded to a 16-year-old Bolt member from Ontario, Canada for his high-performance super car design titled RK Exision. As part of the "Design Your Dream Car" sweepstakes, design enthusiasts also had the opportunity to win a Limited Edition Ford Escape. Eighteen-year-old Bolt member Cattie Storey of Eastland, TX received the keys to her new Ford Escape at a ceremony last week. Bolt's Chairman & CEO Dan Pelson stated, "The success of the 'Design Your Dream Car' contest is a testament to the significant role that cars play in teens' lives. We're thrilled to leverage our partnership with Ford to help them connect with the young consumers, and designers, of the future."
