UAW, Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing Announce Tentative
Agreement
NORMAL, Ill., Aug. 25 United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2488
and Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, Inc. (MMMA) today announced a
tentative agreement for a new four-year collective bargaining agreement
covering 2,683 UAW members at the company's automobile manufacturing facility
in Normal.
The agreement was reached at 6:40 a.m. CDT Saturday morning, approximately
30 hours after the previous agreement expired. A ratification vote is
scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Sunday, August 26, at the Bone Student Center on the
campus of Illinois State University in Normal. Terms of the agreement were
not disclosed pending ratification of the contract.
"The UAW is proud of the solidarity demonstrated by our members at MMMA
during this tough set of negotiations," said Dennis Williams, Region
4 Director, UAW. "We want to get our members back to work as soon as
possible, and we look forward to building a quality product and continuing our
already positive relationship with MMMA."
"MMMA would not have achieved the success we have to date in improving our
manufacturing operations without the partnership of the UAW and all our
employees," said Rich Gilligan, President & COO of MMMA. "We're pleased with
this agreement. Now we can focus on continuing to build high quality vehicles
customers have a right to expect."
"As we move beyond this contract negotiation process, the ability of UAW
Local 2488 and MMMA to work effectively together is critical to competing
successfully in the marketplace," Gilligan continued.
