MMMA STATEMENT

    NORMAL, Ill., Aug. 24 Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of
America released the following statement:

    While we were not able to reach an agreement on contract negotiations with
the UAW when the contract expired a few hours ago that in no way diminishes
our twelve-year history of partnership for the benefit of our employees.
    We will continue to work with the UAW to resolve outstanding issues and,
ultimately, to continue building our workplace, pursuing aggressive business
goals and a commitment to building world-class, quality cars for the American
consumer.
    Talks have resumed this morning and we are hopeful for an early resolution
of the issues.
