SME's Detroit 2001 APEX Will Showcase Michigan's Manufacturing Tradition

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 24 The Society of Manufacturing
Engineers (SME) is excited to present the Midwest's largest metalworking and
manufacturing exposition of 2001, the Detroit 2001 Advanced Productivity
Exposition (APEX), scheduled for September 25 - 27, at Cobo Center in Detroit,
Michigan.
Approximately 400 machine tool manufacturers and regional distributors
will display and demonstrate the latest machine tools, metalworking
technologies and manufacturing processes. Technologies include: machine tools
and accessories; cutting tools and inserts; milling; grinding and deburring;
drilling and tapping; EDM; CAD/CAM; machine controls (NC, CNC, DNC); flexible
manufacturing systems; waterjet cutting; finishing; laser systems and more.
The Detroit 2001 APEX event is expected to attract 14,000 manufacturers,
engineers and executives from throughout the Midwest.
    Exposition Hours are: Tuesday, Sept. 25 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday,
Sept. 26 - 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 27 - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SME will provide cutting-edge conference sessions at the event that will
include topics ranging from Six Sigma to Lean Manufacturing. Part of the
conference will also cover several non-technical subjects. Also available
this year will be the exhibitor-led Product & Technology Forums. Company
experts will provide 1-2 hour presentations on various technologies and
products. Attendees are then invited to the show floor for a demonstration of
the technologies described in the forum.
The Detroit 2001 APEX is also celebrating the rich history of a Michigan
Manufacturing Tradition and the Detroit 300. With the assistance of Carron
Industries, a showcase of automobiles that represent the heritage of
"Manufacturing in Michigan" will be on display. The vehicles will range from
those with the latest technology to the classics that made Detroit famous. To
celebrate the City's tri-centennial, SME and the Detroit 300 Commission will
sponsor a networking breakfast on the opening day of the tradeshow.
Manufacturing companies that were founded in Detroit and have been in
existence for fifty years or more will be recognized.
Attending the patriarch of SME's machine tool shows is easy, thanks to the
assistance from the Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau. Convenient
downtown parking will be made available at Comerica Park and Joe Louis Arena
with shuttle service to Cobo Hall. For More Information about the Detroit
