RACING: Longtime Motorsports Writer Bill Lorenzen Passes Away

BENICIA, Calif. - Longtime motorsports journalist Bill Lorenzen died from complications stemming from heart surgery on Aug. 7. He was 69-years-old.

Lorenzen was a member of the Motorsports Press Association (MSPA) for more than 20 years and served as vice president of automotive writers. He was also a motorsports writer for both the Vallejo Times Herald and Fairfield Daily Republic in the North Bay.

Lorenzen covered motorsports events at his home track, Sears Point Raceway, for more than 20 years and was considered the "Dean of the Media Center" at the raceway. He was born in Denver in 1931 and was a graduate of the University of Colorado.

A memorial service for his friends will be held on Sept. 8 at the Captain Charles Stone Hall at the Camel Barns in Benicia from 2-4 p.m.

Lorenzen is survived by his wife, Nanette.
