TRW Contributes Nearly $200,000 to United Way Community Services in Detroit in 2001 during the Company's 100th Anniversary

    DETROIT--Aug. 23, 2001--In its 100th year of operation, TRW Inc. will be providing nearly $200,000 in corporate and employee donations this year to the United Way campaign.
    This month the company made a $71,000 corporate contribution to United Way in Detroit as part of an estimated $1.2 million total corporate gift this year.
    The company's automotive operations employ approximately 4,000 people in ten Detroit metropolitan sites, with major locations in Farmington Hills, Livonia, Sterling Heights and Washington, Mich.
    TRW representatives presented the check to Virgil H. Carr, United Way Community Services president and chief executive officer, on behalf of the TRW Foundation.
    "We are grateful for TRW's ongoing and historic support of the United Way campaign," said Carr. "TRW's tradition exemplifies how corporate and employee involvement strengthens community partnerships and helps improve the quality of life in southeastern Michigan."
    Total contributions from the 2000 United Way Campaign helped provide services to more than 1.4 million people in southeastern Michigan through its 130 United Way-supported agencies.
    TRW employees in the Detroit metro area have pledged nearly $110,000 in contributions to United Way for this year, in addition to the $71,000 corporate contribution.
    In addition to Detroit, TRW has a strong presence in the Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas. Other Michigan locations include Brighton, Fowlerville, Fenton and Jackson.
    The TRW Foundation provides support to charitable organizations serving the needs of the public in TRW plant communities and to select educational institutions. Early childhood development and science and technology are among the Foundation's primary areas of emphasis.
