ADVISORY/Media Professionals Drive Special Course to Learn Firsthand the Dangers of Distracted Driving
--WHO: L.A. media professionals, many of whom spend a good part of the day driving while talking on the two-way radio, making cell phone calls and writing copy, will have the opportunity to drive a course designed by the Auto Club and the C-H-P to learn the limitations of distracted driving. WHAT: Media professionals will put their driving skills to the test in cars provided by the Auto Club against everyday distractions and a few surprises. WHEN: Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, 10 a.m. at Parking Lot 27 at Dodger Stadium. WHY: The California Highway Patrol says that the overwhelming majority of automobile collisions are caused by distractions of some kind. But nearly every driver believes they are under control of their car when they are talking on the phone, looking for an address on a map or having a conversation. Media professionals, who are perhaps some of the most experienced distracted drivers, will learn the truth for themselves. NOTE: It is best to call in advance to reserve a time, as only one driver at a time will be able to drive the course.
