ACDelco Powers 25th Crim Festival Of Races Celebration

Grand Blanc, Mich. - What could be better than running a world class road race? How about raising charitable dollars for mentally handicapped athletes and fostering community pride and cooperation among residents.

On Saturday, August 25th, ACDelco, the "All Makes/All Models" provider of high quality automotive replacement and service parts, will once again be the presenting sponsor of the 2001 10-mile race. This marks the fifth consecutive year the GM Service Parts Operations (SPO) brand has sponsored this premier running event.

ACDelco and Jon Brancheau, director of brand marketing, embraces this opportunity to get involved with the community at a grass roots level. "Sponsoring such a respected community event helps demonstrate GM SPO's commitment to Flint and its surrounding areas." Brancheau adds, "Our support of this diverse festival of races allows ACDelco to showcase its commitment to quality. Like the elite racers participating in the Crim, ACDelco also has uncompromising standards."

ACDelco will play a major role in the Crim Festival of Races 25th running celebration - Wednesday, August 22 through Sunday, August 26. Once again, more than a hundred SPO employees will participate in Crim events. "This race is a great thing for the city of Flint," says Gary Guerrieri, a 25-year runner and SPO employee. "It's truly something special."

On Saturday, August 25, Dave Martin, SPO finance manager, will sing the national anthem to start the festivities. Brancheau will be on hand to start the 10-mile Race, a favorite challenge of elite runners from across the globe.

In addition, ACDelco's support of the event will include a prominent display at the Crim Expo, staffed with employees to answer questions about their all-makes and all-models products. Throughout the event, an ACDelco hot air balloon will be floating high above the Crim race routes.

There were over 14,300 event participants in last year's Crim Festival of Races. Over 6,000 participated in the ACDelco-sponsored 10-mile Run event. Over 60 vendors and non-profit organizations will provide information, goods and services to the 40,000 participants and spectators expected to attend the event.

Through the help of sponsors and participants, six local charities benefit from the money raised. Those charities are the Crim Youth Development, Shelter of Flint, Inc., Area XIII Special Olympics, Fair Winds Girl Scouts, Genesee County Literacy Coalition and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Flint. To date, the Crim has helped raise over 2 million dollars for these charities.
