Wagoner Debuts Production Chevrolet SSR At Woodward Dream Cruise

FOR RELEASE: August 17, 2001

Wagoner Debuts Production Chevrolet SSR At Woodward Dream Cruise

The production version of the Chevrolet SSR made its world debut today when Rick Wagoner, GM president and CEO, drove the bright yellow roadster onto Michigan's Woodward Avenue today, joining the cruisers and commuters jamming the avenue on the eve of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

"We said we were going to build it, and here it is," said Wagoner. "The SSR is proof that GM is passionate about great products and committed to bringing these products to market fast."

The yellow roadster, the first Chevrolet SSR built with production-intent parts, shows how true the SSR will be to last year's concept vehicle. Chevrolet will continue to develop and refine the SSR over the coming months, with initial production beginning toward the end of 2002.

The Woodward Dream Cruise has become one of the world's premier heritage events, with an estimated 1.5 million attendees on the official cruise day and several weeks of informal activities leading up to the event. Thousands of GM vehicles and GM-powered hot rods, along with their enthusiastic owners, participate each year in this grass-roots celebration of automotive passion.
