Caldera UnixWare 7 Runs California Department of Motor Vehicles' Identification Tracking System on the Unisys ES7000
SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--Aug. 20, 2001--New System Implemented by Computer Deductions, Inc. and Polaroid
Will Track Catalog and Manage all Drivers' Licenses Issued by the
California DMV
Caldera International, Inc. today announced that Computer Deductions, Inc. (CDI) and Polaroid have successfully deployed its UnixWare 7 product with ReliantHA 1.1 to replace the California Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) driver's license identification production and tracking system.
The new system will produce, track, catalog and manage all drivers' licenses issued by the California DMV.
The system, managed by Polaroid and developed and operated by CDI, is used to house and manage the California DMV driver's license photo database of over 74 million records, and is sized to accomodate up to 120 million records. By empowering the central processing unit (CPU) to pull up any photo and its corresponding biographical information at a sub-second response rate, the new system instantly and substantially reduces the risk of driver's license identification fraud. Now, graphical profiles and biographical information cannot be mismatched to provide unauthorized individuals legal access to the roads.
"Producing legal documents, which include photos, fingerprints, signatures and biographical information, for millions of people necessitates a stable, reliable operating system that delivers repeatedly on demand," said Tom Calabro, vice president of operations at CDI. "The speed, accuracy and dependability of Caldera UnixWare 7 make it the optimal operating system for California's DMV."
"CDI's implementation of Caldera UnixWare 7 with ReliantHA 1.1 further legitimizes the versatility, dependability and reliability of Caldera products and demonstrates the capacity of Caldera's UNIX products as mainstream business solutions," said Drew Spencer, CTO at Caldera.
