CART: Dixon, Gugelmin ready for racing at Road America

"I was up one-and-a-half seconds on my lap time when the red flag flew, so I know I would have moved up a lot had we stayed green," said Dixon. "Then, when we did go green again, there wasn't much time left and no one crossed the start finish line before the checkered flag flew. I knew we had to attack that last lap because everyone else would. The track was greasy when our session started, but it was starting to dry towards the end. It was still slick where the rubber was, but I kept it in the driving line and was able to put in one last flyer. It was good enough for third so I'm happy about that. I'm not really sure exactly how fast my car is this weekend but, with this being my best CHAMP car start, we'll find out tomorrow since we'll be starting further up front than we have preciously."
MAURICIO GUGELMIN - # 17 NEXTEL PACWEST TOYOTA
Position: 15th Time: 2:09.015s Laps: 12 Speed: 112.954mph
"My car was very loose and the track was extremely slippery," said Gugelmin. "A loose car is normal in wet conditions and I actually prefer my car to be a little on the loose side - but not that loose. The Canada corner was very bad for traction. Before qualifying we decided not to go with a wet set-up hoping the track would dry towards the end of the session, but it kept raining. The set-up is no body's fault, just a gamble that didn't pay off. We're in the middle of the pack for tomorrow, so we will concentrate on being patient and taking care of my car, and with a little luck and a great race strategy, we'll be there at the end."
