Lynx - Road America Qualifying

RUTLEDGE ON FRONT ROW, LAPOINT THIRD FOR SUNDAY'S ATLANTIC RACE AT ROAD
AMERICA

Lynx Racing driver David Rutledge, 23, of Vancouver, B.C. qualified
on the front row for the start of tomorrow's CART Toyota Atlantic race at
Road America. His new teammate, American Jason LaPoint, of Woodburn,
Oregon, qualified third in his first-ever Atlantic race. Brazilian Hoover
Orsi will start from the pole.
The Rutledge / LaPoint duo are having excellent seasons in their
respective series. Rutledge has won three Atlantic races from the pole and
is second in the battle for the Atlantic championship. LaPoint, who will
drive three races with the Lynx team (including Road America, Houston and
Laguna Seca) is second in the US F2000 championship and won from the pole
in last weekend's event at Mid-Ohio.
"I had a flyer going but hit some backmarker traffic and that cost
me the pole," says Rutledge, who drives the #19 Lynx Racing Swift 008.a.
"Starting second may actually work to my advantage at this particular
track. The straights here are so long, and the speeds are so high, that
drafting plays a big part in things here and the guy on the pole almost
never keeps the lead on the second lap. We have a good car, and I'm happy
to have a fast teammate to work with, so we'll be going for the win on
Sunday."
LaPoint has been fast throughout the weekend's practice sessions,
and has impressed up and down pit lane with his speed and mature on-track
performance.
"Atlantic is like F2000 on fast-forward, but I've felt comfortable
in the car since the moment I got into it," says LaPoint, who drives the
#32 Lynx Racing / Infinity Motorsports Swift 008.a. "I was a little
surprised when they told me on the radio that I qualified third, but
driving with a team of this quality and experience, it's not unexpected.
Everybody, David particularly, has been incredibly generous with their time
and help in getting me settled into the team and the car, and I'm looking
forward to my first Atlantic race."
Tomorrow's pivotal 17-lap race in the Championship fight between
Orsi and Rutledge will get under way at 2:30 p.m. Central Standard Time.
