#55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard
Motorola 220 - Qualifying Notes/Quotes - Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001
Road America - Elkhart Lake, Wis. - 4.048-Mile Road Course
Round 14 of 21 on the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series

Tony Kanaan and his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard will start
Sunday's Motorola 220 from the inside of the ninth row after a wet and wild
qualifying session today. A light rain fell throughout today's two
30-minute qualifying sessions. Kanaan made a valiant bid on the final lap
of the second session. But he had a brief off-course excursion that,
according to the team's computer data, cost him 4.6 seconds and the fourth
spot on the starting grid. His qualifying time of 2 minutes, 9.330 seconds
(an average of 112.679 mph) around the 4.048-mile Road America circuit left
Kanaan 17th on the timesheet.

Teammate Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing
Honda-Reynard, who qualified in the first group today, will start from the
inside of the 12th row after a lap of 2:12.328 (110.126 mph). Kenny Brack
earned the pole today in 2:03.531 (117.969 mph). Alex Tagliani qualified
second in 2:03.674 (117.832 mph), with Scott Dixon third in 2:04.631
(116.928 mph).

CART's qualifying show will be shown on a tape-delayed basis at 1:30 a.m.
EDT Sunday on ESPN2. The Sunday-morning warm-up show CART2DAY begins at 11
a.m. EDT on ESPN2. Race time is noon local time (1 p.m. EDT) with a live
broadcast set for ESPN.

TONY KANAAN

"Man, I would give anything to have that lap back. I had a good lap going
and just made a mistake that cost us. Obviously, I'm not happy about that
at all. There's a huge difference between being fourth and being 17th.
But, fortunately, this is a track where you actually can get by people.
There are at least two good places to pass out there. So if the guys give
me a good race car, which they have been doing a lot lately, then Sunday
should be pretty interesting for us. I feel bad for today, but you have to
look ahead."
