"FIREWORKS FINALE": A spectacular aerial tribute to Irwindale's third and final appearance by the Southwest Tour and to the first night of the three-day Labor Day Weekend will be sent skyward right after the last race of the evening. Fans so enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks show at Irwindale that this "encore" has been set for September 1 as well.
IRWINDALE DRAGSTRIP: Oked by the Irwindale City Council at its August 9 meeting, work on the new 1/8-mile Irwindale Dragstrip is progressing quickly. Over 2,000 feet of flat rail now lines the track, the starter's box water burn-out areas are finished, the modular HQ building and restrooms are on site and ready to be placed, the 1,000 seat grandstand framing is about to be erected, and all the miles of electrical wiring and fencing are about to be installed.
FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT: September 15 has been set for the track's annual Fan Appreciation Night. To start things off right Kids 12 and under are free and adults tickets will be on sale at a very low price. Additional surprises, deals on hot dogs and cold drinks, give-aways, and drawings are planned for this night that will honor the people who make it all possible, Irwindale Speedway's great fans.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: The San Gabriel Valley News Group (San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News, and the Whittier Daily News) will present Back to School Night at the Speedway on Saturday, September 22. Kids 12 and under (when accompanied by an adult) will receive free admission. A unique attraction for that night of racing will be the return of the wild Figure 8 races to the twisted Irwindale 8 race course.
ADD IRWINDALE DRAGSTRIP FIRST USE: The first event on the new 'Strip will be a special one. Its working title is "Top Cops versus Celebs", an invitational charity drag race event pitting Chiefs of Police from some 20 southern California area law enforcement agencies against celebrities from the entertainment and sports world. One-on-one drag races in exactly-equal Advantage Ford Focus automobiles. September 29 is the date with activities taking place on the 'strip from 2 till 5pm. Unique food vendors and other crowd attractions will add to the festive atmosphere. Admission to this event will be free to the public.
SALUTE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT NIGHT: Saturday night, September 29 has been designated "Salute to Law Enforcement Night" at the Speedway. With an assist for the Automobile Club of Southern California working exhibits from law enforcement agencies from all over Southern California will be on display, the CHP precision driving team and LAPD motorcycle units will both do on-track demonstrations, and the night will be one in which fans will have an unparalleled opportunity to thank law officers for all that they do for the public.
