August 18, 2001MAURICIO GUGELMIN - # 17 NEXTEL PACWEST TOYOTA
Position: 11th Time: 1:41.965s Laps: 25 Speed: 142.920mph
"Overall, we had a good day of practice," said Gugelmin. "It started off kind of shaky when I had a slight vibration in my transmission during the first practice session. It wasn't really affecting me that much, but it was a concern. After the session ended, we had a look at things and were able to make the necessary repairs. When I went back out this afternoon, my balance was great. We were able to learn a few things in the second session, and I only used two sets of tires all day, which is nice. I'm happy with the way things are progressing so far this weekend and looking forward to qualifying."
SCOTT DIXON - # 18 POWERWARE PANASONIC PACWEST TOYOTA
Position: 15th Time: 1:42.215s Laps: 22 Speed: 142.570mph
"This was my first full day of practice on this track and I think it went well," said Dixon. "I found my self using up my tires quicker than I would like, so we might have a look at that tonight and adjust the camber on my car a little. I didn't get as good of a run on my last stint because I got caught up in some traffic. Otherwise, I think we could have improved on our time and position before the checkered flag flew. I am happy with the day and we're right on track with my set-up to put in a good qualifying run tomorrow."
