Local Automotive Dealer Will Pay $250,000 for Mariner Win; Art Gamblin Motors to Return Down Payments if M's Win World Series
ENUMCLAW, Wash.--Aug. 15, 2001--A few hundred Puget Sound residents will receive hundreds, or thousands, of dollars if the Mariners win the World Series.Art Gamblin Motors, a General Motors dealer in Enumclaw, will pay up to $250,000 to their customers if the Seattle Mariners win the 2001 World Series. The automotive dealership will refund up to $2,000 of each customers' down payment, for cars purchased during this baseball season (after August 1, 2001). Due to federal requirements and other restrictions, only down payments paid by cash or check can be eligible for the refund.
"We really want the Mariners to win," says Alan Gamblin, President of Gamblin Motors. "We've purchased insurance and for me, giving away a quarter million dollars would be a pleasure. For our customers, it's every gambler's dream: being eligible for the winnings without placing a bet."
Like Gamblin, there will likely be a few hundred of his customers who also really want the Mariners to win. Gamblin says some customers believe the Series title is a sure thing, but others feel the win would just be a nice bonus for a car they already intended to buy. He anticipates approximately 230 customers will be eligible for a refund, should the Mariners win the World Series.
