Project Management Institute and Lawrence Tech To Host Project Management Seminar and Symposium September 27-29
DETROIT, Aug. 15 The Project Management Institute (PMI), Great Lakes Chapter (GLC) and Lawrence Technological University (LTU) will host the inaugural Northern Midwestern Regional Seminar and Symposium at LTU's Graduate College of Management, September 27-29, 2001. "Project managers are ultimately responsible for completing projects correctly, on time and within budget -- often without proper training in cost control, timeline development, resource procurement or risk management," said John Green, PMI GLC president. "This program is designed to help project managers develop and hone these critical skills as corporations look to increase operating efficiencies through the implementation of mature project management best practices." The Seminar and Symposium is being coordinated by the PMI GLC, administered and hosted by the LTU's Continuing Education Program, and sponsored by several leading professional technical organizations in the region. Green also noted that LTU's Graduate College of Management is a strong sponsor of the event and may add project management coursework to the graduate management program. SEMINARS (September 27-28) The Seminars include 15 one-day training courses and 15 two-day training courses covering the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), including: * Team building and project computer simulations * Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam Preparation * Customer Relationship and Supply Chain Management * Computer software program training * PM soft skills training "We are fortunate to be able to offer courses by some of the leading professional PMI Registered Education Providers in the country," said Green. "We want attendees to return to work energized from learning something new about managing projects effectively." SYMPOSIUM (September 29) The Symposium's main event is the Technical Program, offering 35 technical presentations in seven tracks. Track topics range from project management skills to industry-specific project management guidelines and best practices. One track is devoted to classroom demonstrations on PM software. The symposium will close with an Executive Panel discussion moderated by Green. The five-member panel will discuss: * Importance of project management * Requirements to establish proper sponsorship * Creating a project management culture * Constraints to successful program management office implementations * Future of the project management profession Certified PMPs will earn 16 of the 60 required Professional Development Units (PDUs) toward maintaining PMP certification.
