Block Party August 18, featuring celebrated
Beatles tribute band, "American English"
WHAT: Borton Volvo of Minneapolis will host the 5th Annual Borton Block Party, featuring the Minnesota premiere of "American English," considered one of the top Beatles tribute bands in the nation. American English is a three-time winner of the "Best Beatles Tribute Band" at the annual "Beatlefest" convention in Chicago. Sam Leach, the original promoter of the Beatles, calls American English "The best Beatle show since the Beatles." The band performs three sets in costume, as the early Beatles, the "Sgt. Pepper"-era Beatles, and the "Abbey Road"-era Beatles. WHEN: Saturday, August 18, 2001. 4p.m. to 10p.m. American English performs 8:30p.m. to 10p.m. WHERE: The front of Borton Volvo of Minneapolis, 5428 Lyndale Ave. S. WHY: Borton is nestled within a residential neighborhood, which is unique for an auto dealership. And, while the entire Twin Cities community is invited to the event, the company holds the party in appreciation of its Southwest Minneapolis neighbors. More than 4,000 attended last year's Block Party, and the company expects the number to increase for this year's event. In addition to American English, the Borton Volvo Block Party will feature music by Heat Wave, The Basement Band, as well as face painters, clowns, jugglers, palm readers, tattoo artists, a beer garden and barbecue ribs.
