August 15, 2001CENTENNIAL, Colo. (August 15, 2001)*The SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships will now close their respective 2001 seasons by running a doubleheader weekend on the Audi Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, October 3-7. The announcement comes following the cancellation of the October 19-21 weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway by the American Le Mans Series.
Both the Speedvision GT and Touring Car Championships will run races on Friday, October 5 and Sunday, October 7 to close their seasons--book ending the 1000km Petit Le Mans race on Saturday--the new finale of the American Le Mans season.
"While we never like to change our schedule mid-season, the American Le Mans Series and Road Atlanta have been very gracious in accommodating our series and teams to complete the full 10-race schedule," said Mitch Wright, Vice President and General Manager of SCCA Pro Racing. "The Petit Le Mans week will be full of great racing action."
The season-ending awards banquet will also move to the Atlanta area, set for Sunday night. Further details will be released at a later date.
The ALMS announced that tickets already purchased for the Lowe's Motor Speedway event will be refunded, or may be redeemed for a two-for-one offer to the Audi Petit Le Mans.
The Speedvision World Challenge Championships next travel to Laguna Seca, September 7-9.
