Mills Pontiac to back Benza in Brainerd
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 14) – Pro Stock driver Bob Benza will fly the
colors of Brainerd-area powerhouse car dealership Mills Pontiac-GMC on
his sleek Pontiac Grand Am at this weekend’s 20th annual Colonels Truck
Accessories NHRA Nationals. The arrangement includes prominent signage
on Benza’s brand new 2001 Grand Am and a pre-race fan appreciation party
at Mills Pontiac-GMC from 1-6 p.m., Thursday, where Pontiac Racing
prizes, race tickets, and “Crew Person of the Day” packages will be
given away.
“Mills Pontiac-GMC is proud to be a local sponsor of Bob Benza and his
awesome Pontiac Grand Am,” Mills general manager Brad Van Vickle said.
“We wish Bob and his team the very best of luck at BIR this weekend and
we look forward to having him and his race car at our dealership on
Thursday. We invite all the race fans to stop by and visit with us.”
Fans can register for prizes all day Thursday at Mills Pontiac-GMC,
located on Highway 371 North at Dellwood Drive in Baxter. An entry box
will be placed right next to Benza’s eye-catching Pontiac Grand Am race
car, which will be on display in the main showroom. No purchase is
necessary to enter.
Fans are encouraged to stop by and meet Benza, Top Fuel Rookie of the
Year candidate Darrell Russell of Team Amato, and the entire morning
crew from KLZ 107.5 FM, “The Power Loon” radio, who will be broadcasting
live from 1-6 p.m.
“The excitement is really building for this weekend,” said Benza, of
Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. “We’ve been working around the clock on this
Grand Am to prepare for what we hope will be our biggest outing of the
year. Frank Iaconio has completely revamped our No. 1 race motor and
we’ve made some big changes with the chassis, the wiring, and the
ignition system since the last time we raced. We’re confident we have a
car that can compete.
“It’s great to be associated with Mills Pontiac-GMC. You can’t drive
into Brainerd International Raceway without being impressed by the
entire Mills operation. It’s easy to see why they are considered among
the best dealerships in the country. We look forward to spending time
with the extended Mills family all weekend and we hope to put them in
the Winner’s Circle on Sunday.”
ESPN2 will provide several hours of television coverage of the 20th
annual Colonels Truck Accessories NHRA Nationals. Highlights of the
qualifying rounds will air from 8-10 p.m. (ET) Saturday, while the
elimination rounds will be broadcast from 5-7 p.m. (ET) Sunday. An
