OSHA Head and Ryder Systems CEO to Address National Safety

Two outstanding national safety and health leaders - John L. Henshaw, the new head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Gregory T. Swienton, President and CEO of Ryder Systems, Inc. - are among a stellar list of speakers at the National Safety Council's 89th annual Congress & Expo in Atlanta, Georgia. The Congress & Expo will be held Sept. 21-28 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The Apollo 13 mission*s Gene Kranz and Jim Lovell will highlight the Congress* opening session at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24. The two NASA veterans will discuss why *Failure is NOT an Option!* in the safety business, and why safety professionals need to work together and communicate effectively in times of crisis.
At 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, Mr. Henshaw, who was recently confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, will present the Bush administration's plan for addressing safety-related issues in the workplace at the Occupational Keynote session. Mr. Henshaw recently completed a three-year term as president of the board of directors of NSC*s Safety Council of Greater St. Louis. He is a past president of the American Industrial Hygiene Association as well as a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He was Director of Environment, Safety and Health for Astaris, LLC, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was previously the Director of Environment, Safety and Health for Solutia Inc.
Ryder Systems, Inc., President and CEO Gregory Swienton will present the Corporate Keynote address at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24. Ryder Systems is a $5.3 billion global supply chain and transportation management company headquartered in Miami, Florida. Mr. Swienton serves on Ryder's board of directors and is a member of the board of directors of Harris Corp., a communications equipment company based in Melbourne, Florida and of the St. Thomas University Board of Trustees. He has also held senior management positions with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, DHL Worldwide Express and DHL Airways, Inc. Mr. Swienton will discuss how he incorporates worker safety and health and environmental stewardship into strategic planning for Ryder Systems, Inc.
