Murata Electronics Expands EMI Filter Line

    SMYRNA, Ga.--Aug. 14, 2001--Murata Electronics North America (www.murata.com), a world-leading innovator in electronics, today introduced an advanced line of Surface Mount Ferrite Beads (BLM15, BLM18P, BLM18HK and BLA2A) designed to remove unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI).
    Applications of the series include networking equipment (xDSL and cable modems and routers); interface products (USB, IEEE1394 and Low Voltage Differential Signaling - LVDS); the Electronic Data Processing (EDP) market (PC, personal digital assistants); the consumer market (Set-Top Box, Entertainment equipment) and the telecom sector (cellular phones and pagers).
    Through continuous engineering improvements, Murata has been able to downsize surface mount ferrite beads while providing improved features such as increased current capacity and high frequency characteristics - both of which meet increasing market demands.

    Also of great significance is the fact that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires electronics equipment to be tested for EMI emissions. If the emissions exceed a specified level, the equipment can not be marketed in United States. Murata's Surface Mount Ferrite Beads are an integral part of ensuring that FCC standards in this area are consistently met.
    Currently Murata offers a wide range of Surface Mount Products and expanded the line-up with the following new products:

    -- BLM15 - a 0402 surface mount ferrite beads with impedance range from 10 ohms up to 1000 ohms and new Lead Free Terminations. The lead-free terminations are increasingly important in today's environmentally conscious market; Murata's sample price is approximately 10 cents.

    -- BLM18P - a 0603 surface mount ferrite bead with high current capacity. Murata's new products have increased impedance values and can handle up to three amps, which is substantial for this package size; Murata's sample price is approximately 5 cents.

    -- BLM18HK - a 0603 surface mount ferrite bead capable of filtering in the GHz range and is suitable for filtering EMI noise up to and beyond this range. This new product impedance characteristics consist of a higher resistive element in the lower frequency range making it ideal for digital interface circuits; Murata's sample price is approximately 10 cents.

    -- BLA2A - a 0804 surface mount ferrite bead array capable of filtering four circuits. The new compact size makes the BLA2A ideal for limited board space applications; Murata's sample price is approximately 25 cents.
