Garrett Engine Boosting Systems Brings 36th Supplier on Board With Apexon Business Relationship Management (BRM)(TM)
Establishes One of the Largest Manufacturing Extended Enterprises Managed Within a Single Business Solution SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 14 Less than four months after going live with the Apexon Business Relationship Management (BRM)(TM) solution, Garrett Engine Boosting Systems is now bringing its 36th supplier onto Apexon's business solution for managing an extended enterprise of design, manufacturing, and supplier partners. Garrett, a division of Honeywell International , is the world's leading provider of turbochargers supplying the automotive and industrial equipment sectors. The company is expanding its scope to now design and manufacture complete air management and engine boosting systems. "To really serve our customers well, we have become more of a custom systems integrator, rather than purely a supplier of standard products. This means that our core competency is heavily weighted towards supplier and partner management," says Jerry Rockstroh, vice president, World Wide Supply Chain at Garrett. "We chose to partner with Apexon because its business software helps us quickly achieve stronger relationships with our suppliers in a practical, effective way." About Apexon BRM at Garrett The Apexon Business Relationship Management (BRM) solution is a comprehensive enterprise software suite comprised of six fully integrated applications for managing an extended enterprise of design, manufacturing, and supplier partners. Specifically, it includes BRM Planning, BRM Procurement, BRM Production, BRM Quality, BRM Supplier Assessment, and BRM Issue Resolution. Unlike enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) solutions which facilitate transactions and create efficiencies within an organization, Apexon moves beyond an enterprise's walls, enabling businesses to better manage outsourced relationships. Garrett implemented Apexon's Web-based BRM application suite in early 2001 as part of its Supply Chain Collaboration initiative. Currently, Garrett is using Apexon to collaborate with its North American suppliers, and plans to extend the solution to its European operations later this year. Apexon BRM provides Garrett with five core benefits: -- Spotlighting potential problems: Using Apexon's real-time metrics and reports, coupled with alert capabilities, Garrett buyers and planners can instantly see deviations from plans, such as failure of suppliers' to meet commitment deadlines, inventory shortages, and failures to update monthly capacity estimates. -- Collaborative issue resolution: unlike any other supply-chain solution, Apexon gives Garrett a structured approach to working through supply-chain glitches before they impact customer orders. Only Apexon provides practical, proactive resolution paths that bridge the gap between supply chain expectations and actual performance. -- On-going supplier assessment: for the first time, Garrett can readily evaluate its suppliers' performances in real-time, ensuring that a variety of key metrics such as on-time delivery, defect ratio, financial stability, and manufacturing capacity meet expectations. -- Standardized business processes: Garrett uses Apexon's configurable business processes to bring consistency to operations in procurement, planning, quality management, and assessing suppliers. For example, the system automatically prompts suppliers to commit to delivery dates and amounts, minimizing part shortages and production delays. -- Two-way information visibility across the extended enterprise: Apexon integrates with Garrett's SAP system as well as its product data system (encompassing engineering drawings, technical specifications, and engineering change notifications). This enables its supplier network to access and update information related to quotes, capacity, delivery commitments, and consigned inventory in real time. Additionally, all data associated with Garrett's short- and long-range plans is available to partners, as appropriate, so that they have a continual, centralized view of ongoing requirements. With Apexon, suppliers select the format by which they exchange the information with Garrett, including XML, e-mail, EDI, or WAP. Suppliers do not need to download or install any software locally, and they can also import data directly into their own systems.
