Billy Dee Williams Lands at Planet Hollywood For Foundation Fundraiser

Billy Dee Williams Lands at Planet Hollywood For Foundation Fundraiser

NEW YORK, Aug. 13 Film icon Billy Dee Williams is set to
star in Oldsmobile's unique Celebrity Convoy to benefit Black colleges when
the month-long, New York fundraising campaign lands at Planet Hollywood,
located at 1540 Broadway, on Wednesday, August 15th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Williams will conduct a meet and greet with fans outside of Planet
Hollywood, while encouraging donations to the Tom Joyner Foundation benefiting
historically Black colleges and universities. Oldsmobile Bravada is sponsoring
the ambitious campaign.
The legendary actor is renowned for his galactic roles in "The Empire
Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," not to mention parts in the richly
memorable "Lady Sings The Blues," "Mahogany" and "Brian's Song."
Williams is continuing his partnership with Oldsmobile that was
established earlier this year with his recording of two radio spots.
To execute the fundraising campaign, Oldsmobile is taking five of its all-
new, redesigned 2002 Bravada SUVs on the road in convoy fashion in and around
the Big Apple, landing at various hot spots and events. Each convoy consists
of at least one celebrity who, at each pre-arranged destination, participates
in an outdoor meet and greet and talks about the importance of supporting
African-American students. Donation envelopes are distributed on site at each
event.
Other celebrities to be featured during the campaign include Joyner, R&B
sensation Gerald Levert, legendary soul music group The O'Jays, hot new
recording artist Alicia Keys, "New York Undercover" star Malik Yoba, song-
stylist Angie Stone and many more.
Oldsmobile will make a donation to the Foundation in the name of each of
the participating celebrities. The company will also match donations to the
Foundation generated by Convoy attendees.
Urban contemporary radio station WRKS, which hosts Joyner's popular
morning show in the New York market, is promoting the more than 16 Celebrity
Convoys traveling this month to various boroughs.
