Entries open for Kumho Tyres Scottish Rally
Regulations have now been published for the Kumho Tyres Scottish Rally
postponed from its original June date because of the foot and mouth
restrictions.
Now running on the weekend of Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September
16, the Royal Scottish Automobile Club (Motorsport) Ltd has cut the event to
one and a half days. This is to make it easier for competitors and officials
to tackle the event without taking time off work.
With no British championship for the rally to count towards, the RSAC has
also changed the rally to National A status, rather than international. This
means that homologated cars are not essential, although there will be
classes for them.
The Dumfries and Galloway supported event will start from English Street in
Dumfries at 8 am on Saturday morning. The rally returns to the town for an
overnight halt, with the first car due back in the town around 6pm.
The restart is at 7 am on Sunday morning with the finish at lunchtime. The
total length of the route is around 375 miles of which 106 miles are in
competitive sections in some of the UK's best forest stages. The entry fee
has been set at £595.
Commenting, Jonathan Lord, the RSAC's Clerk of the Course Jonathan Lord
said:
"With no British Championship this year, we took the decision to make the
Kumho Tyres Scottish Rally more accessible to more competitors. By going to
National A status, we are able to accept entries from club competitors
without an international licence and to cater for competitors without a
homologated car.
"In a similar vein, we have made the whole event a little shorter, finishing
on Sunday lunchtime, with the prize giving at 1.30 pm. However we have still
managed to incorporate 106 miles of some of the best rallying stages in the
country."
National B events on Saturday cater for the Formula Rally series, the Ford
Ka Championship, the Ford Puma Championship, the Peugeot Super 106 Cup, the
Volkswagen Polo Rally Championship and the Maxsport Cup Formula 1400
Championship. These events take in six special stages totalling around 65
miles.
A National B status event on the Sunday morning counts for the Association
of West of Scotland Motor Sport Clubs' Stage Rally Championship, while the
traditional Land Rover rally will run as a National B status event over the
Saturday and Sunday route.
The Kumho Tyres Scottish Rally will also provide a boost for the Dumfries
and Galloway region. Council figures for previous years estimate the
additional business generated by the event at around £1 million.
