Thousands Expected to Attend Mustang Club of America's 25th Anniversary Celebration
COMMERCE, Ga.--Aug. 13, 2001--Thousands of Ford Mustang fanatics from across America and around the world will descend on the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia September 27 to take part in a three-day celebration commemorating the Mustang Club of America's twenty-fifth anniversary.Few products occupy a special place in the minds of consumers like the Ford Mustang. The legendary car has appeared in television shows and movies, and been the subject of hit songs. With more than six million cars sold since its 1964 debut, Mustang has a huge base of enthusiastic owners, led by the members of the Mustang Club of America.
"Our fans live the Mustang lifestyle," said Bill Dillard, past president of the Mustang Club of America, and member number 007. "Many own more than one model of the car, and have restored original 1964 1/2 ponies and cars from other years. Many fans treat the car like a member of the family, and have photos and written stories about the car from the time they bought it."
Mustang Club of America members have also provided Ford Motor Company with a powerful sales tool for the car.
"Over the years, the Mustang Club and all of its members have been valued partners -- not only as extremely effective brand advocates in helping to market the car, but also as influential sounding boards for our product ideas," said Ford Motor Company Mustang and Thunderbird Brand Manager Mickey D'Armi. "Many brands would love to have the positive word-of-mouth created by such loyal fans. These enthusiasts are great ambassadors for Mustang and the entire Ford Brand," D'Armi said.
Boss, Saleen, Shelby, Rousch and McLaren are some of the famous names that have been associated with Mustang throughout the years, and many cars bearing those names will be on display at the 25th anniversary.
People restoring Mustangs have been known to search the nation for an original swatch of cloth or piece of trim for their restored car. An industry of specialty parts makers, manufacturers and souvenir producers has sprung up around the legendary car. Many part makers will also be in attendance at the show, doing a brisk business.
The four-day event will include a static car show, drag racing, and an opportunity for Mustang lovers to catch up on the latest news.
