Cormetech Expands Cleveland Manufacturing Facility

CLEVELAND, Tenn.--Aug. 13, 2001--Cormetech Inc., a leading supplier of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts, used to reduce stationary source emissions contributing to ground level ozone (smog) and Acid Rain, is expanding its manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Tenn.
The addition to the facility will enhance Cormetech's ability to continue meeting the increased demands of its customer base - coal, oil and gas power generation plants and refineries throughout North America.
After being awarded a seven-year, $68 million contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in 1998, Cormetech built a second manufacturing plant that opened one and a half years ago. Recognizing the increased volume of business and its long-term commitment to its customers, Cormetech has decided to expand the Cleveland facility in a continued effort to meet its customers' needs. With plans to more than triple its capacity, the expansion will be completed by early 2002.
"It is our intent to provide quality pollution control equipment to all of our customers," said Cormetech's president and CEO, Frederick L. Maurer. "The relationships with our customers have been outstanding, and we are thrilled to be expanding our plant in an effort to help fulfill their needs and, in so doing, improve the environment."
Cormetech, which designs and manufactures products to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions from coal- and gas-fired plants that generate electricity, has worked closely with electric utilities and engineering companies throughout North America in an effort to support their clean air compliance plans. Although Cormetech considered other expansion locations in surrounding states, growing the Cleveland, Tenn., plant was the best approach to meeting the company's growth objectives, according to Cormetech's president, Maurer.
"We strive to provide excellent service to all of our customers," said Maurer. "The SCR catalysts we produce have helped our customers meet the emission reduction requirements of their industries, and the work force at our current manufacturing facilities have greatly contributed to the quality of our product."
Completion of the facility expansion will create approximately 50 employment opportunities, adding to the current 130 manufacturing jobs currently in place at the plant. Cleveland and Bradley County officials said they are pleased with Cormetech's decision to expand in their area.
Cormetech Inc., founded in 1989, is a joint equity company of Corning Incorporated and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Headquartered in Durham, N.C., it is a leading company in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from stationary sources. Corning is acknowledged as the worldwide leader in automotive emission control. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and their licensees, Cormetech among them, have supplied nearly half of the SCR systems installed on utility boilers, industrial boilers, and combustion turbines throughout the world.
