NHRA FMDRS: Meyer and Chesterman claim victories at Nebraska Motorplex

August 12, 2001SCRIBNER, Neb.- In the final results from Nebraska Motorplex, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Jay Meyer and Federal-Mogul Funny Car pilot Cy Chesterman took home top honors.
Jay Meyer of Freeport, Texas took on David Wells of Lemars, Iowa in the final and laid down a 5.722-second, 245.63-mph pass to take the win.
"We gave the car everything we had," said Meyer. Adding, "getting a win against a guy like Wells is great."
Sioux City, Iowa resident Cy Chesterman faced Kirk Williams of Glenwood, Iowa in the final of Federal-Mogul Funny Car. Chesterman drove his Coca-Cola sponsored '99 Trans Am to victory with a6.119-second run at more than 238 mph.
Winners in other classes are Robert Baldwin of Aurora, Colo., in Comp; Bobby Denis of Shorter, Ala., in Super Stock; Bill Howell of Aiken, S.C., in Stock; Michael Miller of Santa Fe, N.M., in Super Comp; Jeff Taylor of Evans, Colo., in Super Gas; Paul Sherratt of Longmont, Colo., in Super Street; and Curtis Spracklin of Omaha, Neb., in Super Bike.
Awards given out at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Summer Sizzle included The Best Engineered Car award to Mike Ricke and his 2000 Cavalier from Maplewood, Minn. The Best Appearing Car award went to Steven Ore and his 1968 Chevelle from Aurora, Colo. Finally, the Best Appearing Crew award was won by Russ Ginger and his team out of Minneapolis, Minn.
The West Central Division Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series makes its next stop at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa, September 7-9.
