TOP QUALIFYING HONORS GO TO MEYER AND CHESTERMAN


        SCRIBNER, Neb.- In the final rounds of qualifying at Nebraska
Motorplex, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Randy Meyer and Federal-Mogul
Funny Car pilot Cy Chesterman took home the top qualifier honors.
        Randy Meyer of Spring Hill, Kan., made the quarter-mile pass in
5.511 second at more than 239 mph to earn the Sealed Power Low qualifier
check and put him on the pole position.  Also earning a $1,000 check from
Sealed Power was Sioux City, Iowa, resident Cy Chesterman.  Chesterman made
a 6.012-second 241.28-mph pass to put him at the top of the Federal-Mogul
Funny Car category.
        Low Qualifiers in other classes are Scott Benham of La Grange,
Texas, in Comp; Michael Mans of Rogers, Minn., in Super Stock; and Clint
Blezien of Bensenville, Ill., in Stock. 
        Eliminations begin Sunday at 8:00 a.m.  Gates at Nebraska Motorplex
open at 7:00 a.m.  Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car run at 1:00 p.m.
