RANDY MEYER AND SCOTT PALMER RACE TO TOP SPOT


        SCRIBNER, Neb.- In the first rounds of qualifying at the Nebraska
Motorplex, Randy Meyer in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Scott Palmer in
Federal-Mogul Funny Car are leading their respective fields.
        Dragster pilot Meyer, of Spring Hills, Kan., made a crowd-pleasing,
and track E.T. record, 5.535-second, 239.42 mph run to put him atop of the
leader board.  Meanwhile, Highlandville, Mo., resident Palmer took the top
spot in Federal-Mogul Funny Car with a 6.218-second, 194.09 mph pass in his
'98 Achieva.
        Top qualifiers in other classes are Scott Benham of La Grange,
Texas, in Comp; Michael Mans of Rogers, Minn., in Super Stock; and Bill
Rink of Naperville, Ill., in Stock.
                Qualifying continues Saturday at 8:00 a.m.  Gates at
Nebraska Motorplex open at 7:00 a.m.  Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car
run at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.  For more information call the track, (402)
