Tony Kanaan and his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard finished the
opening day of practice for Sunday's Miller Lite 200 seventh fastest in the
afternoon session today.  He toured the scenic 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports
Car Course in 1 minute, 7.098 seconds (an average of 121.141 mph) on his
final lap of the day.  Kanaan was 11th in this morning's opening session in
1:08.554 (118.575 mph).

Teammate Alex Zanardi, in the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing
Honda-Reynard, was eighth-fastest this afternoon with a time of 1:07.218
(120.932 mph).  Defending series champion Gil de Ferran was fastest this
afternoon and overall today at 1:06.151 (122.882 mph) with his teammate,
Helio Castroneves, right behind him in the second spot at 1:06.234 (122.729
mph).  Jimmy Vasser was third at 1:06.788 (121.710 mph).

Practice resumes at 9:45 a.m. EDT Saturday with qualifying scheduled for
1:45 p.m.  ESPN2's qualifying show will be shown on a tape-delayed basis at
1 a.m. EDT Sunday.  Race time on Sunday is noon EDT with a live broadcast
set for ESPN2.

"That's a good way to finish the day.  The car feels very good right now.
There was a lot of traffic to deal with out there.  It seemed like it took
eight laps to get one clear lap.  I really wasn't happy about that at all
but
my engineer, Eric (Cowdin), did a good job of keeping me calm over the
radio.  Thanks to him, we got a setup that worked very well in traffic and
on old tires.  Finally, at the end of the session, I said 'let's put some
new tires on and go for it.'  On the very first flying lap, we ended up in
the top seven.  It's something good to build on for the rest of the weekend.
Maybe I shouldn't say this, but we might have a lot of car left."
