Field Gets Valuable Seat Time at The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, New York (August 10, 2001) - Although Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series driver, Clint Field won't be competing in tonight's Bully Hill Vineyard 250, he put in over an hour of practice on Thursday afternoon.

"I went out three times this afternoon," Field said. "The more seat time I get in the car, the more prepared I will be for the finale."

Due to the late arrival of the new Lola B2K/10B to the Intersport Racing/Banana Joe's team, and the short length of the race, Field will not be competing at Watkins Glen International for the second time this season. When the Grand-Am series visited The Glen in May, Field was only 17-years-old and due to state age restrictions, was unable to compete in the six-hour event.

However, Field is not discouraged, but is looking at this trip as a learning ground for the upcoming season finale in Daytona and his future visits to The Glen.

"The practice has been very good for me," Field said. "Not only is it getting me used to the car, but I have a great jump start on learning the track for next year."

When the new Lola arrives at the Intersport camp, the current #37 Lola Judd B2K/10 will be turned over to Field and his uncle Joel for the season finale, while Clint's father, John, and Englishman Oliver Gavin will be aboard the new Lola B2K/10B.

Although not in the car, Field will give his undivided attention to learning every aspect of the #37 machine.

"It's just as important to learn what goes on outside of the car during the race," Field said. "I pick up pointers from the crew and by listening to my dad on the radio. Every piece of information helps me to understand the car more and ultimately, become a better driver."

Despite some problems in Thursday's practice, the #37 machine will start in third position after a great qualifying run by John.

"We have made a lot of changes to the car," Clint said. "In last night's final practice, we dropped the wing and added 7 mph to our speed. We are going to try and drop it more during the warm up and if it handles well, we're going to go with it. We have a great shot at winning this race."
